What is Fundacion Alto al Crimen-Boquete?
Fundacion Alto al Crimen (Foundation Stop the Crime) was formed by a group of concerned citizens of Boquete (expats and Panamanians) to address the issue of rising crime associated with the influx of relatively rich expatriates to the Boquete area.
What does Fundacion Alto al Crimen-Boquete do?
Many things.
#1 PROTECT THE COMMUNITY
We protect the community by letting the bad guys know that every crime will be investigated and that there are consequences for criminal activity.
Much of this work is out of the public eye.
Alto al Crimen-Boquete works with the local police to augment their capabilities and provide them with eyes and ears in the expat community.
We communicate critical information to the Boquete community.
In addition to crime activity notifications, we provide safety and crime prevention information in the way of workshops, meetings and email broadcasts.
Please know that we sometimes choose to not publish every piece of information about every crime, especially when an investigation is in progress.
We will however, make public any information when we believe there is a dangerous situation and the community needs to be informed.
Our new website will now enable us to communicate quickly and more effectively to the Boquete community.
#2 PROTECT NEIGHBORHOODS & HOMES
We believe that the key to effective crime reduction is prevention.
We work with the local residents, expats and Panamanians, to improve the security of their neighborhoods and homes through direct communication and workshops.
#3 PROTECT THE PEOPLE
The Boquete Hotline and the Boquete Resident Database was established as a result of identifying a need within the community. Both have now become community institutions assisting all of us.
In addition, these two services provides a meaningful and rewarding career for an otherwise wheelchair-bound Panamanian.
The Alto al Crimen-Boquete Crime Prevention Program has proven itself with the vastly reduced crime rate that we now enjoy.
All of this has happened because of your generosity as individuals and as a community.

What can individuals do as part of Alto al Crimen-Boquete?
Crime prevention and safety starts with the individual.
Alto al Crimen-Boquete will utilize all of its resources when a crime occurs, however, the first responsibility rests with each of us.
REPORT ALL CRIMINAL ACTIVITY TO THE BOQUETE HOTLINE
We need to know about a crime in order to help. We need you to be our eyes and ears in the community.
Call the Boquete Hotline. Remind your friends and neighbors to report a crime and call the Boquete Hotline.
Rodny will expedite getting your information to the appropriate emergency personnel AND valuable information is collected which helps Alto al Crimen-Boquete to develop crime prevention strategies that benefit all.
REGISTER FOR A BOQUETE RESIDENT ID#
An emergency situation is not a time when we think clearly. Trying to provide directions to your house under stress in a foreign language can be very overwhelming.
Plan ahead. Just in case.
Register for a Boquete Resident ID# and have your information entered in our database so that if an emergency should occur, your information is readily available.
If you should ever need emergency services, just call the Boquete Hotline and give your personal Resident ID#. Rodny will contact the appropriate emergency personnel for you.
Tell your friends. Tell your neighbors. Get a Resident ID #.

Many recent crimes have taken place at residences with minimal or no safety and crime prevention measures in place.
Several were not reported to the Boquete Hotline, and police response was delayed. Response time by the appropriate emergency personnel is critical to solving a crime.
One of the biggest mistakes was not even reporting the crime. No crime is too small to report. Failing to report a crime may condemn one of your neighbors to be a victim.
Be proactive and not reactive.
